Akyaka is situated in the province of Muğla, in the southwest of Turkey, at the eastern end the Gökova gulf. It is one of the most delightful resort in Turkey as it is at te end of the Gökova gulf, bordered in the north by the almost 1000m high Sakartepe, in the south by the welands of the Gökova plain.

In 1970’s Akyaka was discovered. A meager tourism began to develop at that years. After 1980’s, the tourism potential of Akyaka raised demanded as which today it is one of the most demanded resort in Turkey by Turkish and European tourists.

There are daily boat tours to the island of Cedar covered with olive trees from Gökova Çetibeli Village and Taşbükü. There is a very special beach on the island that is covered with a white sand, it is a narrative that Cleopatra brought this sand from Egypt. This custom is thought to be organic content of sand. It is said that in the bay that extends until the middle of the island Cleopatra and Mark Antonius were swimming. Theatres, churches and templeson the island are the remains that attracts tourist to island.

The main attraction for most of the visitors is the natural beauty of Akyaka, with European Fishotter in Kadın Azmağı(Woman River), different types of herons, flamingos, pelicans in Gökova wetland and paragliding activities at Sakartepe,the local mountain of Akyaka in the north.

The fish restaurants along Kadın Azmağı where freshly caught fish is perfectly prepared and served, are very well known by gourmets throughout Turkey.
