Ula

Ula county is surrounded by Köyceğiz in the east, Gökova Bay in the west, Muğla in the north, Marmaris in the south. Altough it is not a precise information when the city was established, about the BC 6 century it is believed to have been established. Outside Kınık and Fethiye the region where Ula is situated is known as Caria in ancient times. Removed inscriptions in excavations in Athens on BC 1440 the Ionians deal with Karya, the name ‘OLA’ was used. It was recorded by Evliya Çelebi that in17th century Ula was surrounded by vineyards and grapes are grown in thisregion was sent to Egypt.
In Ula, Akarca(Karadere) River, flowing through Gökova, increase water in the spring and when pouring down from Gapiz Cliff, it becomes a spectacular waterfalls worth to see.
A large part of Ula mountain is covered with forests. So many herbs which are indispensables of fresh and healthy Aegean foods, are grown in these forests too.
The houses of county is single-storey, wooden and in gardens. When you are walking on the streets of Ula, it is not difficult to feel history of civilizations that was welcomed by Ula.
